What to Look for in Airbrush Body Paints

There are several things to look for when purchasing airbrush body paint. Since the paint is applied directly to skin, it is crucial to purchase a non-toxic paint that is capable of wear on human skin.
Non-toxic
First and foremost, do not select a toxic paint. This means you must avoid using oil or enamel based paint. Instead, choose an acrylic or latex paint.
Brand
It is always best to choose body paint made by a reputable manufacturer and specifically designed for body application. Several airbrush paint companies make airbrush body paints. For example, Badger and Paasche make highly respected body paints.
Other things to avoid
While it is tempting to simply pick up a bottle of craft paint and airbrush, this is not usually a good idea. While you can thin any paint and put it through an airbrush, unless paint is specifically made for application to skin, it is not advisable to use it as body paint. Even if the paint is non-toxic, it can still prevent the skin from breathing. It also may not adhere to skin, which means you could see your work of art flake away right after application.
While it is tempting to spray any non-toxic paint through an airbrush, if the paint is applied to a human body, you should choose paint specifically designed for body application. Specialized body paint is non-toxic, adheres well to skin and does not prevent skin from breathing.
